CAVALIER SNATCH POINT FROM TIVOLI

Cavalier SC continued their good form on the road in the Red Stripe Premier League when they came from behind to draw 1-1 with Tivoli Gardens at the Edward Seaga Sports Complex yesterday.

Colorado Murray opened the scoring for Tivoli in the 68th minute, while Cavalier winger Kaheem Parris equalised five minutes later.

Cavalier have been one of the in-form teams in the second round of the competition and showed good spirit to earn a point off their opponents who, based on the run of play, should have put the game to bed from the first half.

Tivoli Gardens were unlucky not to take the lead from as early as the fourth minute when Elton Thompson's back heel from a Marvin Stewart crosshit the base of the post and rolled along the goal line before Jeadine White saved.

Alex Marshall dragged his effort for Cavalier wide of the mark from inside the box before Tivoli took the game by the scruff of the neck.

In a chance for Tivoli, Thompson was perhaps looking for the ground to open up and swallow him after he rolled the ball wide of the goal from 12 yards with Jeadine White rooted to the goal line, before Tevin Shaw saw his header crash against the crossbar and unto the goal line after he out jumped the entire Cavalier defence.

Referee Kevin Morrison waved away the appeals of the Tivoli players who believed the ball had crossed the line.

In the next promising move, Andre Moulton drove down the left side before crossing inside to Sean Coleman, whose one-time effort went just wide of the right upright as Tivoli increased their siege on the Cavalier goal.

Cavalier's Alex Marshall got a rare look in after capitalising on a mistake from Romaine Brackenridge, but was denied by Nicholas Clarke, who was quick off his line to save with his feet.

Tivoli's Moulton missed with a header from inside the six-yard box when he got onto the end of a deep free kick from Stewart.

Then it was time for Thompson to hold his head once again when he missed the entire goal from five yards after getting unto the end of a left sided cross from Moulton.

Tivoli kept pressing and Cavalier had to resist the onslaught from the hosts who had four corner kicks in a row, the second of which saw a shot from Morris taking a double deflection before going just pass the right upright.

Cavalier would have counted themselves lucky to go in even at 0-0 at the half-time break.

Marshall had the first chance of the second half, but his tame header from a Hamilton cross following a Cavalier counter-attack was easy for Clarke to handle.

A deep cross from Tivoli right back Shavar Campbell to the back post was mishandled by White, but Thompson could only head the ball into the side netting at the near post as his nightmare in front of goal continued. Thompson was substituted shortly after and replaced by Colorado Murray.

Ten minutes after being on the pitch, Murray brought smiles to the face of the Tivoli fans when he ran on to the end of a Tevin Shaw pass to pass to White to make it 1-0.

But the Tivoli joy would not last long as another substitute made an impact on the game.

Parris, the Dinthill High daCosta Cup star, was on the pitch for barely a minute when he poked home from close range to make it 1-1, beating Clarke at his near post in the process. It was the second goal in as many games for the teenager.

In the end both teams had to settle for a point with Tivoli moving up a point to 37 and Cavalier one up to 35.

The result leaves Tivoli Gardens in third place and Cavalier in fourth at the end of the second round.

As expected, Tivoli Coach Omar Edwards was disappointed with his team's performance in front of goal.

“We created several opportunities but failed to capitalise, but such is the nature of football. We just have to continue to improve the team offensively so that we can capitalise on the opportunities we are creating,” he said.

Rudolph Speid of Cavalier thinks the workload is starting to take a toll on the legs of his players.

“Scrappy, scrappy scrappy! I don't think the pitch helped and I think the effects of playing so many games in one month is starting to take its toll,” he opined.
