Flash Food Wash for Ja!

The Office of Disaster Management & Emergency Management (ODPEM) is urging citizens to be on the alert as the Meteorological Service of Jamaica has advised that the system continues to produce unstable weather conditions across sections of the island. The Meteorological Service of Jamaica has issued a Flash Flood Watch in effect for eastern and central parishes and low-lying flood-prone areas of St. Ann, St. Mary, Portland, St. Thomas, Kingston and St. Andrew and St. Catherine effective until 5:00 a.m. tomorrow Thursday September 26. In addition reports of flooding are in the following areas: Harbour View, Corridor along St. Johns Roads and the drains in Spanish Town. The ODPEM in consultation with the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), The Jamaica Fire Brigade (JFB), National Works Agency (NWA), Water Resource Authority (WRA) and The St. Catherine Municipal Corporation reports water level in Bog Walk Gorge is rising and rocks are falling and to use extreme caution in this vicinity as well as to use caution in the area of Hope River The public is advised to continue monitoring the radio for further advisories and to avoid areas that are at risk from flooding and landslides. precautions during heavy rainfall: 1. Be ready to evacuate if you live in low-lying or flood-prone areas. Decide on likely evacuation routes 2. Avoid flooded waterways, i.e. Fording, gullies, streams or rivers, either on foot or in vehicles. The ODPEM is reminding the Public that we are still in the Atlantic Hurricane Season and should take the necessary safety precautions as instructed by the ODPEM and other authorities.
