JPS Employees to Return to Work

JPS employees represented by the Union of Clerical Administrative and Supervisory Employees (UCASE) should start returning to work this evening, based on an agreement reached at the Ministry of Labour this afternoon.

JPS Representatives and representatives of UCASE have signed an agreement at the Ministry, agreeing that normalcy will be restored to the Company with the 8:00 pm shift tonight. In addition, the Union and JPS agreed to meet at the local level to have further discussions on the following areas of concern: the electricity discount to Pensioners; the wage claim submitted for 2018/2019; and the Performance Based Incentive Programme proposed by the Company.

More than 200 employees represented by the Union of Clerical Administrative and Supervisory Employees (UCASE) started calling in sick on Sunday night (October 7), forcing Managers and other team members to step in to keep the operations running. The Company also got assistance from the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) to facilitate ongoing operations of its Rockfort Power Station. As a result, customers were not significantly affected by the industrial action.

A follow up meeting is scheduled for next week at the Ministry of Labour.
