Kingston, Jamaica: Generation 2000 (G2K) the young professional affiliate of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP), regrets to advise of the passing of former Vice President, Richard Porteous on Wednesday September 26, 2018 after a prolonged illness.

“The passing of Richard Porteous is a tremendous loss for G2K, the Jamaica Labour Party and by extension Jamaica, who has lost one of her finer sons. We are heartbroken by the death of a young person whose life positively impacted many had the privilege of making his acquaintance,’ said G2K President, Mr. Stephen Edwards.

As a stalwart member of the JLP, Richard Porteous previously served as a member of the Party’s Central Executive, its second-highest decision-making body. Separately, he extended service to Jamaica as a member of the Board of Directors of the Jamaica Foundation for Lifelong Learning (JFLL) and the Social Development Commission (SDC) among others.

“My friendship with Richard extends past a decade and I had the pleasure of knowing him well. Among his endearing traits was his consistency in going above the call of duty in the service of others. Above all, we have lost a friend and brother whose many acts of service and guidance to our Organization will live on in our memories,’ said G2K General Secretary, Mr. Oludiad Brown.

The public is invited to sign the condolence book at the Jamaica Labour Party’s Headquarters at 20 Belmont Road.

G2K expresses sincere condolences to the family and friends of Richard Porteous. May his soul rest in peace and light perpetual shine on him.
