SPANISH TOWN & ENVIRONS ON LOCK-DOWN!
March 18, 2018- The Security Forces have heightened operational activities in the St. Catherine North Division as part of the approach to stem crime and lawlessness in Spanish Town, Linstead, Bog Walk and adjoining communities in the wake of the recent declaration of a State of Public Emergency for sections of the parish by the Honourable Prime Minister.
There has been approximately 49 murders in the division since the start of the year and last year recorded 136 murders, while 35 shootings have been recorded for 2018 and 137 for last year. The inter and intra gang feud in the division has accounted for a large percentage of the murders, shootings and other violent crimes committed in parish.
As part of ensuring that the threat to public safety is cauterized there will be special focus on the bus parks in these areas.
Additionally, there will be some changes to the operating hours of businesses within the area of enhanced operational activities.
The following are closing hours for all businesses in Spanish Town, Linstead and Bog Walk:
* Community Recreational Areas by 6:00 p.m.
* Cook shops, dry goods and haberdasheries by 7:00 p.m.
* Spirit License premises by 7:00 p.m.
* Service Stations by 7:00 p.m.
* Clubs and fast food outlets by 7:00 p.m.
* Pharmacies by 7:00 p.m.
The Police assures the public that curtailment of activities will be done in accordance with, and with respect to human rights, and encourages citizens to cooperate with the security forces, as they seek to restore public peace and general good order in the society.
Additionally, the Police cautions the public to be in full adherence of these restrictions and advises that violators will be prosecuted.
